McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Gets Extended: What’s Driving the Fast Food Frenzy?

McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo cited by Bloomberg. Most U.S. locations agreed to continue the promotion, which originally launched on June 25, and it will now be available at approximately 93% of restaurants across the country. The duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some franchises planning to keep the deal active until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in fast casual dining, this meal bundle has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. Recent analysis from foot traffic research firm Placer.ai indicated a significant increase in customer visits to its restaurants following the launch of the promotion, demonstrating that the deal is appealing to customers.

The competitive landscape has prompted other fast casual dining chains to introduce their own deals in response. Arby’s has come out with a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced its $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside the existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and a Cravings Value Menu.

In a similar vein, Burger King extended its $5 “Your Way Meal” beyond McDonald’s promotion and introduced new items in its “Fiery Menu.” Additionally, Wendy’s has entered the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and its $5 “Biggie Bag” combo.
