McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: Will Competitors Keep Up?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, as reported by Bloomberg, which referenced an internal memo from the fast food chain. This promotion, originally launched on June 25, has been embraced by a majority of U.S. McDonald’s locations, with approximately 93% planning to continue offering the deal. However, the duration of the promotion may vary by restaurant, with some choosing to extend it until August.

As consumers face higher food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, this bundle has been beneficial for McDonald’s. Foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai indicated that the launch of the meal deal led to a noteworthy increase in customers visiting their restaurants, highlighting its popularity among diners.

The success of McDonald’s meal bundle has sparked competition among other fast casual chains, prompting them to introduce their own deals. For instance, Arby’s has rolled out a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Burger King has responded with its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle, which it plans to keep available for a longer period than McDonald’s offering. The chain is also adding new items to its “Fiery Menu.” Additionally, Wendy’s has made its move by introducing a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
