McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo cited by Bloomberg. The promotion, which launched on June 25, has been supported by the majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S., and will continue to be available at about 93% of restaurants nationwide, although the duration may vary by location, with some outlets planning to maintain the offer until August.
This decision comes as consumers grapple with rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector. The bundle deal has proven beneficial for McDonald’s, with foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reporting a significant increase in customer visits following the promotion’s rollout.
The success of McDonald’s meal deal has also prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own promotions. For example, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has added a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and its Cravings Value Menu in June.
Moreover, Burger King plans to extend its $5 “Your Way Meal” beyond the original timeline of McDonald’s promotion and recently unveiled new items for its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has introduced a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag,” further intensifying the competition in the value meal arena.
