McDonald’s has decided to extend its $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo reported by Bloomberg. The promotion, which started on June 25, has garnered support from the majority of U.S. McDonald’s locations, allowing it to continue at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide. However, the extension of the deal may vary by location, with some restaurants opting to maintain the offer until August.
Amid rising food prices affecting consumers, particularly in fast casual dining, this meal bundle has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. A recent analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated that the introduction of the $5 meal deal has led to a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations, highlighting its popularity with diners.
The success of this promotion has spurred competition among other fast casual dining chains, prompting them to introduce their own value deals. For instance, Arby’s recently unveiled a $9 bundle, while Sonic launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell also joined the fray, announcing a $7 Luxe Cravings Box and a $5 Taco Discovery Box, along with its Cravings Value Menu.
Earlier in May, Burger King declared that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would be available for a longer duration than McDonald’s offer and announced upcoming new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has introduced a $3 breakfast bundle along with a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag” as part of its competitive strategy.
