McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Next for Fast Food Fans?

McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo reported by Bloomberg. The initial promotion, which began on June 25, has received approval from the majority of U.S.-based McDonald’s locations to continue beyond its original four-week timeframe.

The meal bundle will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants across the country, although specific extension dates may vary by location. Some franchises have already decided to maintain the deal until August.

In the current economic climate, where many consumers are facing high food prices, especially for fast casual dining, McDonald’s bundle has proven beneficial for the company. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai noted that after the bundle was introduced, there was a significant increase in visitors to McDonald’s locations, indicating the promotion’s success with customers.

Other fast casual dining chains are responding to the competitive landscape prompted by McDonald’s deal. For example, Arby’s has created a $9 meal bundle, and Sonic has introduced a permanent value menu priced at $1.99. Taco Bell has also jumped into the promotional fray, offering a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box along with its $5 Taco Discovery Box and value menu.

Burger King announced in late May that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” would continue longer than McDonald’s offering, and the chain is also adding new items to its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has introduced a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag” in response to the competitive market.
