McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Next for Fast Food?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, following positive feedback from customers. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, most U.S. locations are on board with continuing the promotion, which originally started on June 25 for a four-week campaign.

The meal deal will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the extension may differ by location. Some franchises have chosen to keep the offer running until August.

As consumers face rising food costs, particularly in fast casual dining, this deal has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai noted that, after the promotion was introduced, there was a significant increase in customer visits to the restaurants, indicating that the offer has struck a chord with patrons.

This successful strategy has prompted competitors in the fast casual dining sector to respond with their own deals. Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, in addition to a $5 Taco Discovery Box and its Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s deal. The chain also announced new menu items within its “Fiery Menu” earlier that month. Wendy’s is also participating in the competitive pricing with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
