McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Next for Fast Food?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo cited by Bloomberg. The promotion, which initially started on June 25, will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s locations across the United States, although the duration of the deal may vary by location, with some restaurants extending it until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s meal deal has proven beneficial for the company. A recent analysis from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated that the introduction of the bundle led to a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants.

The success of this promotion has prompted a competitive response from other fast casual dining chains. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King declared that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer period than the McDonald’s deal, while also revealing plans to add new items to its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has joined the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and has also begun to offer a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
