McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Next for Fast Food?

Fast food leader McDonald’s has decided to extend its $5 meal deal for several more weeks following its successful initial launch.

According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to continue the promotion beyond the scheduled four weeks that started on June 25. The value meal will be available at approximately 93% of restaurants across the country, although the exact duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some franchises extending the deal into August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in fast casual dining, this offer has proven advantageous for McDonald’s. Foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai indicated a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the bundle was introduced, suggesting that the promotion effectively appeals to consumers.

This deal has prompted a competitive response from other fast casual dining chains. Arby’s is now offering a $9 bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and its Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King confirmed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s deal and announced new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Additionally, Wendy’s has launched a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag” to participate in the ongoing promotion competition.
