McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Next for Fast Food?

Fast food powerhouse McDonald’s will extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a report. Bloomberg highlighted a memo from the chain indicating that the majority of McDonald’s locations across the U.S. have agreed to continue the promotion, which originally launched on June 25 for a brief four-week period.

The meal bundle will remain available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the promotion’s duration may vary by location, with some choosing to extend it until August.

Amid rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s bundle has proven beneficial for the company. An analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in customer visits shortly after the bundle was introduced, indicating strong consumer interest.

Other fast casual chains have taken notice and are responding with their own promotions. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has also announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Earlier in May, Burger King stated that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s offering and mentioned new additions to its “Fiery Menu.” Additionally, Wendy’s has launched a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
