McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Next for Fast Food?

Fast food leader McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. will continue to offer the promotion, which initially launched on June 25 for a four-week period.

The deal will remain available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide, although the exact duration of the promotion may vary by location, with some franchises choosing to extend the deal until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, especially in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s meal bundle has proven to be beneficial for the company. A recent analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in customer visits shortly after the launch of the bundle, indicating its appeal among shoppers.

This promotion has prompted other fast casual dining establishments to respond with their own competitive offerings. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has also joined the fray, offering a $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Earlier in May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s promotion, and it planned to introduce new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has responded with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
