Fast food leader McDonald’s has decided to extend its $5 meal deal for several more weeks.
According to Bloomberg, referencing an internal memo, a majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have opted to continue the promotion beyond its initial four-week run that started on June 25. The meal deal will be available at approximately 93% of the chain’s restaurants across the country, though the specific duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some establishments planning to keep it until August.
As consumers grapple with rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, McDonald’s meal bundle has proven to be beneficial for the company. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported an increase in visits to McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the bundle was introduced, indicating a positive reception among customers.
The success of the McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own promotions. Arby’s has launched a $9 bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, in addition to its ongoing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In late May, Burger King stated that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be offered for a longer period than McDonald’s bundle. The chain also introduced new menu items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the promotional race with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo named the “Biggie Bag.”
