McDonald’s will be extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, the majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to keep the promotion alive past its original four-week period, which began on June 25.
The meal deal will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, with the duration of the promotion varying by location. Some franchises have chosen to extend the deal into August.
With consumers facing high food prices, particularly at fast casual dining establishments, the McDonald’s bundle has proven to be effective for the company. A report from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated that the introduction of the bundle led to a marked increase in customer visits to its restaurants, showing that the promotion is appealing to diners.
The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast casual chains to respond with competitive offers. Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Also, Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In late May, Burger King announced that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would be available longer than McDonald’s offer. The chain also mentioned adding new menu items under its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has entered the fray as well, promoting a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
