McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, following a successful initial rollout that began on June 25. According to a memo, most U.S.-based locations have agreed to keep the promotion active, which will be available in approximately 93% of restaurants across the nation. However, the duration of the deal may vary by location, with some planning to continue it through August.
The fast-food giant’s decision comes at a time when many consumers are grappling with rising food prices, leading to a surge in interest in value menu options. Recent data from foot traffic analytics company Placer.ai indicated that the introduction of this meal deal resulted in a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s, highlighting its appeal to consumers.
Other fast-casual dining chains are responding to McDonald’s success by introducing competitive promotions. For instance, Arby’s has rolled out a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell also joined the fray by offering a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, in addition to its ongoing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In late May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for an extended timeframe, surpassing the duration of McDonald’s deal. This follows the introduction of new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has entered the competitive promotion space with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
