McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Behind the Surge?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, responding to consumer demand during a period of rising food prices. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to keep the promotion active, initially launched on June 25 for four weeks.

The meal deal is expected to be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s locations across the country, although the exact duration of the promotion may vary by individual restaurant, with some choosing to continue the offer into August.

This promotion has proved beneficial for the company, especially as consumers face financial pressures in the food sector. Foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai reveal that McDonald’s saw a significant increase in customer visits following the launch of the deal, indicating its popularity among diners.

Other fast casual dining chains are reacting to this competitive pricing strategy. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has implemented a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell also announced its own offerings, including a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box along with a $5 Taco Discovery Box and a Cravings Value Menu.

Burger King previously stated that their $5 “Your Way Meal” would continue for a longer period than McDonald’s deal, and in May they introduced additional items under their “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
