McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Behind the Popularity?

McDonald’s, the leading fast food chain, has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to Bloomberg, which referenced a company memo, most McDonald’s locations across the United States have agreed to continue the promotion beyond its initial four-week launch that started on June 25.

This meal bundle will remain available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide, with specific location terms varying, as some franchises may offer the deal until August. The extension comes at a time when many consumers are facing higher food prices, especially in the fast-casual dining sector, making the McDonald’s bundle particularly appealing.

Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations soon after the bundle was introduced, highlighting its positive reception among consumers. This success has prompted other fast-casual chains to respond with their own promotions. For instance, Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle and Sonic has introduced a permanent value menu priced at $1.99. In June, Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box to complement its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In addition, Burger King recently stated that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than the McDonald’s offering and indicated plans to introduce new items within its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the fray, launching a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
