McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Behind the Popularity?

McDonald’s will continue its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, following majority agreement among U.S. locations to extend the promotion that began on June 25. The bundle will remain available at approximately 93% of restaurants across the country, although the duration may differ by location. Some establishments plan to keep the deal running until August.

The decision comes as consumers face rising food prices and seek value options in fast casual dining. McDonald’s deal has positively impacted foot traffic, with analytics firm Placer.ai reporting a significant increase in visits to restaurants soon after the promotion launched, indicating its success in attracting customers.

The competitive landscape has prompted other fast casual chains to respond with their own promotions. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic now offers a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and a value menu.

Earlier in May, Burger King stated that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s deal and revealed plans to add new items to its menu. Wendy’s has also entered the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
