McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Behind the Popularity?

Fast food leader McDonald’s has announced an extension of its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks.

According to Bloomberg, a memo from the company reveals that most McDonald’s locations in the United States have opted to continue the promotion, which initially started on June 25 for four weeks. The meal deal will be available at about 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some extending it until August.

As consumers struggle with rising food prices, especially in the fast casual dining segment, the $5 meal deal has proven to be beneficial for McDonald’s.

Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai showed a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations shortly after the promotion was implemented, indicating that the deal has struck a chord with patrons.

The success of this offer has prompted other fast casual restaurants to consider similar promotions. For example, Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell also joined the competition by offering a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box along with its $5 Taco Discovery Box.

In late May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s deal. The same month, the chain introduced new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s is also participating in the promotions with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
