Fast food powerhouse McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo reported by Bloomberg. The initial four-week promotion, which started on June 25, has garnered support from a majority of U.S. McDonald’s locations, allowing the offer to continue at around 93% of restaurants nationwide. However, the duration of the extension may vary depending on the location, with some restaurants choosing to keep the deal available until August.
This move comes as consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector. The $5 meal bundle seems to be benefiting McDonald’s, as recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicates a significant increase in customer visits following the promotion’s launch.
The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast casual chains to re-evaluate their pricing strategies. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has unveiled a permanent $1.99 value menu. Additionally, Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, complementing its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In response to the competitive environment, Burger King extended its “$5 Your Way Meal” beyond the original McDonald’s promotion and added new items to its menu as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has launched its own deals, including a $3 breakfast bundle and the $5 “Biggie Bag.”
