McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What’s Behind the Fast Food Craze?

McDonald’s has announced that its $5 meal deal will continue for a few more weeks, extending a promotion that initially started on June 25. According to a memo from the fast food chain, a majority of U.S. locations have agreed to keep the promotion active beyond its original four-week timeframe.

The meal bundle will remain available in about 93% of McDonald’s restaurants across the country, although the duration of the offer may differ by location, with some franchises choosing to extend the deal until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly for fast casual dining, the McDonald’s promotion is proving effective for the company. Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai revealed that following the launch of the meal bundle, there was a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations, indicating that the deal is appealing to consumers.

This successful promotion has prompted other fast casual dining brands to respond with their own special offers. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Additionally, Taco Bell announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King declared that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer duration than McDonald’s offering. The chain also announced new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has entered the competitive landscape with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
