Fast food leader McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for a few extra weeks due to positive customer response. According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to prolong the promotion, which launched on June 25 for an initial four-week period.

The meal bundle will continue to be available at about 93% of restaurants nationwide, though the promotion’s duration may vary by location, with some opting to extend it until August.

With many consumers facing high food prices, the McDonald’s deal has proven effective, enhancing foot traffic in their restaurants, as highlighted by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai, which noted a significant increase in customer visits following the bundle introduction.

This promotion has captured the attention of other fast casual dining chains, prompting them to respond with their own competitive offers. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu, and Taco Bell has rolled out a $7 Luxe Cravings Box, in addition to its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In a response to McDonald’s success, Burger King announced their $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s deal, and plans for new menu items as part of their “Fiery Menu” were also revealed. Wendy’s added to the mix with a $3 breakfast bundle and a new $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
