In a recent development, McDonald’s has decided to extend its $5 meal deal promotion for several more weeks. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, the majority of U.S.-based McDonald’s locations have agreed to continue the deal beyond its initial four-week period, which began on June 25.
The meal bundle will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants across the country, though the duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some opting to extend it until August.
As consumers grapple with rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, this McDonald’s deal is proving beneficial for the chain. Recent data from the foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicates that the fast-food giant has experienced a significant increase in customer visits following the introduction of the promotion.
The success of McDonald’s $5 deal has sparked competitive responses from other fast casual dining establishments. For instance, Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic is now offering a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently introduced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In addition, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would continue longer than McDonald’s promotion, while also introducing new items on its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
