McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks, according to a memo reported by Bloomberg. A majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to continue the promotion, which originally began on June 25, beyond its initial four-week timeframe.
The meal bundle will be available at around 93% of restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location. Some franchises have chosen to keep the deal going until August.
As consumers face higher food prices, particularly for fast casual dining, the McDonald’s meal bundle has proven beneficial for the company. Analysis from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations shortly after the promotion was introduced, indicating its appeal.
This success has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own competitive deals. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has implemented a $1.99 value menu. Additionally, Taco Bell recently launched a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In late May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s offer and introduced new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the fray, offering a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
