McDonald’s has decided to extend its $5 meal deal promotion for several more weeks, according to a memo reported by Bloomberg. This extension comes as a majority of U.S.-based McDonald’s locations have agreed to keep the promotion alive, which initially launched on June 25.
The meal deal will be available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some extending it until August.
As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s bundle has proven beneficial for the company. Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai showed a significant increase in customers visiting McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the promotion started, indicating its appeal among consumers.
The competitive landscape among fast casual dining chains has intensified as a result of McDonald’s success. Other chains are introducing their own deals; for example, Arby’s has rolled out a $9 bundle and Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box and continues to offer its $5 Taco Discovery Box, alongside its Cravings Value Menu.
In response to the competitive pricing, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle will remain available longer than McDonald’s deal, alongside new items in its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and recently introduced a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
