McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo. The promotion, which started on June 25, will continue at about 93% of McDonald’s locations across the United States. While the duration of the deal may differ by location, some restaurants plan to keep it available until August.
The decision to prolong the promotion comes as many consumers face high food prices, especially in the fast casual dining sector. This bundle has proven advantageous for McDonald’s, as a recent analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in customer visits to the restaurants following the rollout of the deal.
The popularity of McDonald’s $5 meal has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with competitive offerings. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently rolled out a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In response to competitive pressures, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” will be available longer than McDonald’s deal and has added new options to its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s is also participating in the price competition with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
