McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a leaked memo reported by Bloomberg. The promotion, which initially began on June 25, has been agreed to be extended by the majority of U.S.-based McDonald’s locations, with approximately 93% of restaurants participating. However, the duration of the promotion may vary by location, with some franchises opting to continue the deal until August.
This extension comes as consumers face rising food costs and tighter budgets, making the McDonald’s bundle particularly appealing. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai noted a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s after the introduction of the meal deal, indicating that it has been well received by the public.
In response to McDonald’s success, other fast casual dining establishments are ramping up their own promotions. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently unveiled a $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
Competitors are also adjusting their offerings; Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” will be available longer than McDonald’s promotion and is adding new items to its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has joined the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
