McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, most of the U.S.-based McDonald’s locations have agreed to keep the promotion active beyond its initial four-week run that started on June 25.
The meal bundle will be available in about 93% of restaurants nationwide, although the specific duration of the promotion may vary by location. Some restaurants may continue the deal until August.
As consumers face rising food costs, particularly in fast casual dining, the McDonald’s offer has proven successful for the chain. A recent analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai showed a significant increase in visitors to McDonald’s locations shortly after the meal deal was introduced, indicating that the promotion is appealing to customers.
The deal has prompted other fast casual dining establishments to respond with their own value promotions. For instance, Arby’s has launched a $9 bundle while Sonic introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, in addition to its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
Burger King also mentioned that its $5 “Your Way Meal” will continue longer than McDonald’s offering and is introducing new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Additionally, Wendy’s has responded with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
