McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What it Means for Fast Food Rivals!

Fast food leader McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks.

According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, many McDonald’s locations in the United States agreed to continue the promotion, which initially began on June 25, beyond its original four-week duration.

This meal bundle will be available in approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the duration may differ from one location to another. Some franchises have chosen to keep the deal available until August.

As consumers struggle with rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining segment, the McDonald’s bundle appears to be a successful strategy for the company.

Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated a noticeable increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations shortly after the promotion was launched, demonstrating its appeal to diners.

The deal has also prompted a competitive response from other fast casual dining establishments. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has added a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box in June, in addition to its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Furthermore, Burger King announced in late May that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would extend beyond the McDonald’s promotion and added new items to its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also entered the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and launched a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
