McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What It Means for Fast Food Rivalry

Fast food leader McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several additional weeks.

According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, the majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to continue the promotion beyond its original four-week duration, which began on June 25. This bundle will still be available at approximately 93% of outlets nationwide, although the duration of the deal may differ by location, with some extending the offer into August.

As consumers face higher food prices, especially in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s bundle is proving effective for the company.

Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai noted that following the launch of the bundle, McDonald’s experienced a significant increase in customer visits, indicating its appeal among consumers.

The success of this promotion has raised concerns among other fast casual dining chains, prompting them to introduce competitive deals. Arby’s has launched a $9 bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell also announced a limited time $7 Luxe Cravings Box and continued its $5 Taco Discovery Box alongside its Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would extend beyond McDonald’s offering, also introducing new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has entered the deals arena with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
