McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What It Means for Fast Food Rivalry

Fast food giant McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks.

According to a memo obtained by Bloomberg, the majority of McDonald’s locations across the United States are continuing the promotion, which originally began on June 25. The meal bundle will be available at approximately 93% of outlets nationwide, although the specific duration of the offer may differ by location, with some branches opting to extend it through August.

As consumers face rising food costs, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, McDonald’s meal bundle has proven successful for the company.

Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai shows a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the promotion was rolled out, indicating its popularity among consumers.

This promotion has prompted rival fast casual dining chains to respond with their own offers. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, and Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Similarly, Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box in addition to its $5 Taco Discovery Box and existing Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King extended its own $5 “Your Way Meal” deal, emphasizing that it would continue longer than McDonald’s promotion. The fast-food chain also announced the addition of new menu items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has introduced a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
