McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks to the delight of customers. According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations across the United States have agreed to keep the promotion running beyond its original four-week period, which began on June 25.
The meal bundle will be available at around 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, with varying lengths of the promotion depending on specific locations. Some franchises have chosen to extend the offer through August.
This decision comes at a time when consumers are grappling with high food prices, particularly in the fast-casual dining sector. The $5 bundle has proven beneficial for McDonald’s, as it has contributed to increased customer foot traffic. A report from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai showed a significant uptick in patrons visiting McDonald’s locations shortly after the bundle was introduced.
The success of the deal has prompted other fast-casual restaurants to respond with their own promotions. Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell previously announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In late May, Burger King revealed that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would be available for a longer duration than McDonald’s, and they are actively adding new items to their “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has entered the competitive landscape with a $3 breakfast bundle and recently introduced a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
