McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to Bloomberg, a memo from the fast-food chain revealed that most locations in the U.S. have agreed to continue the promotion, which originally started on June 25 and was set for a four-week duration.
The meal deal will now be available in approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, though the specific duration may vary by location, with some franchises choosing to extend the offer through August.
As consumers grapple with rising food prices, especially at fast casual dining establishments, this bundle has proven to be beneficial for McDonald’s. A report from foot traffic analytics company Placer.ai indicated that the introduction of the $5 deal resulted in a notable increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations shortly after its launch.
This promotion has prompted competitors in the fast casual dining sector to respond with their own deals. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box in addition to its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and its Cravings Value Menu.
Burger King, in late May, revealed that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” would be extended beyond the initial McDonald’s offer, while also introducing new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
