McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What It Means for Fast Food?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its $5 meal deal for several weeks beyond its initial four-week promotion that started on June 25. According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, most U.S. McDonald’s locations will continue to offer the deal, which is available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide. However, the duration of the promotion may vary by location, with some extending it until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, especially in the fast casual dining sector, this bundle has proven to be successful for McDonald’s. A recent analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai showed a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the deal was introduced, indicating its popularity.

Other fast casual dining chains are responding to McDonald’s success with their own promotions. Arby’s has launched a $9 bundle, Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu, and Taco Bell is offering a $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s offer, while also adding new items to its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined in on the competitive pricing with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
