McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Extended: What Does This Mean for Fast Food?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo reported by Bloomberg. The promotion, which originally launched on June 25, has received support from the majority of McDonald’s locations across the United States, continuing at about 93% of restaurants nationwide. The specific duration of the promotion may vary by location, with some franchises planning to keep the deal available until August.

As consumers face increasing food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, this meal bundle has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. Foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai indicate that the introduction of the $5 meal deal led to a significant increase in customers visiting McDonald’s restaurants, highlighting its appeal.

The success of McDonald’s offer has prompted other fast casual chains to respond with their own value deals. Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced it would feature a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would remain available for a longer period than the McDonald’s deal, and it has also introduced new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Additionally, Wendy’s has joined the trend with a $3 breakfast bundle and a new $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
