Fast food giant McDonald’s will continue its popular $5 meal deal for additional weeks, as the majority of its U.S. locations have agreed to extend the promotion beyond its initial four-week run that began on June 25.
According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, the deal will remain available at about 93% of McDonald’s outlets nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location. Some restaurants have chosen to keep the offer available until August.
As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in fast casual dining, McDonald’s value bundle is proving to be beneficial for the company. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported a significant increase in visits to McDonald’s locations following the launch of the deal, indicating its appeal among customers.
The success of McDonald’s promotion has triggered a competitive response from other fast casual chains. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal deal, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell is also joining the fray with a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In late May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would extend beyond the McDonald’s promotion, while earlier in the month, it revealed plans to add new items to its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has entered the discount competition as well with a $3 breakfast bundle and the $5 “Biggie Bag.”
