McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. This decision comes as the fast-food chain faces its first lawsuit related to an E. coli outbreak linked to its Quarter Pounder.
According to Bloomberg, a memo from McDonald’s indicates that most of its U.S. locations have agreed to prolong the promotion, which originally started on June 25. The meal deal will remain available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide, although the duration may differ by location, with some extending the offer until August.
As consumers grapple with rising food prices, particularly in fast casual dining, the McDonald’s deal has proven beneficial for the company. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported a significant increase in customer visits shortly after the promotion was introduced, highlighting its appeal to consumers.
The success of McDonald’s $5 meal deal has sparked competition among other fast casual dining chains, prompting them to introduce similar promotions. Arby’s has rolled out a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. In June, Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its ongoing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
Additionally, Burger King earlier indicated that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” would last longer than the McDonald’s offer, while also introducing new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has entered the promotional fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and has since added a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
