McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. The fast-food chain is experiencing its first lawsuit in connection with the Quarter Pounder E. coli outbreak, but it appears that customer demand remains strong for this promotion.
According to a memo referenced by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have chosen to keep the promotion going beyond its original four-week timeline, which started on June 25. The meal deal will continue to be available at approximately 93% of the restaurants nationwide, although the specific duration may differ by location, with some chains extending the offer until August.
This move comes as consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast-casual dining sector, making McDonald’s bundle appealing to budget-conscious customers. A report from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated a significant increase in visits to McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the deal was launched, highlighting its success with customers.
Other fast-casual chains are responding to McDonald’s competitive promotion by introducing their own deals. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced the limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu in June.
Additionally, Burger King indicated that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s offer, and it plans to introduce new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s is also participating in the promotional efforts with a $3 breakfast bundle and has rolled out a $5 combo named the “Biggie Bag.”
