McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, much to the delight of budget-conscious consumers. According to a memo from the company, a majority of its U.S. locations agreed to keep the promotion running beyond the originally planned four-week period that kicked off on June 25. Currently, approximately 93% of McDonald’s outlets nationwide are continuing to offer this value deal, although the promotion’s duration may vary by location, with some restaurants extending it through August.
This extension comes at a time when many consumers are feeling the strain of rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector. The $5 meal deal has proven successful for McDonald’s, as foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported a significant increase in customer visits following the launch of the promotion. This suggests that the deal is resonating well with customers.
The competitive landscape has also heated up among fast casual dining chains, prompting others to introduce their own value deals in response. For instance, Arby’s has launched a $9 bundle, while Sonic rolled out a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell previously announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box, in addition to its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu. Meanwhile, Burger King has extended its $5 “Your Way Meal” offer and added new items, and Wendy’s has introduced a $3 breakfast bundle along with the $5 “Biggie Bag.”
This increase in value meal options highlights a positive trend for consumers, offering them more affordable dining choices, especially during tough economic times. It is a reminder of how companies can respond to customer needs and market conditions by innovating their offerings, ultimately benefiting consumers with more options and savings.
