Fast food giant McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks.
According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, a majority of McDonald’s restaurants across the U.S. have agreed to keep the promotion going beyond its initial four-week launch, which began on June 25. The deal will be available at approximately 93% of locations nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may vary by restaurant, with some extending it until August.
As consumers continue to navigate high food prices, particularly in the fast-casual dining sector, the McDonald’s bundle has proven beneficial for the company. A recent analysis by Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in foot traffic to McDonald’s locations shortly after the introduction of the meal deal, indicating its popularity among consumers.
The success of this offering has raised the competitive stakes in the fast casual dining market, prompting other chains to roll out similar deals. For example, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has also joined the fray, announcing a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
Additionally, in late May, Burger King announced that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer duration than McDonald’s offering, while introducing new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also ventured into meal deals, offering a $3 breakfast bundle and introducing a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
