McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Continues: What’s Behind the Success?

Fast food leader McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, the majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to keep this promotion going beyond its initial four-week launch period that began on June 25.

The meal deal is set to be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may vary by location. Some restaurants have chosen to continue the deal until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, this offer from McDonald’s has proven to be advantageous. A recent analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations shortly after the promotion was introduced, highlighting its popularity among customers.

The success of McDonald’s $5 deal has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own competitive offers. For instance, Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Additionally, Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, along with its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Earlier in May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would be extended beyond McDonald’s promotion. This announcement came alongside plans for new items on its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the mix, offering a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
