McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Continues: What It Means for Fast Food Rivals

Fast food chain McDonald’s has announced it will continue its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks.

According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to extend the promotion, which initially started on June 25 for four weeks. The meal deal will be available in approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide, although the promotion’s duration may vary by location, with some extending it until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s bundle has proven effective. Foot traffic analytics company Placer.ai reported a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the bundle was announced, indicating strong consumer interest.

This success has prompted rival fast casual dining chains to launch their own promotions in response. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has created a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would outlast the McDonald’s offer and introduced new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also participated by rolling out a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo named the “Biggie Bag.”
