With approximately 95% of McDonald’s locations being franchisee-owned, the franchisees face their own challenges with costs like rent, insurance, and various operational overheads, which may limit their profitability from the promotion.

Spiegel notes that many franchise owners may use such promotional deals as a way to draw customers back, albeit at the cost of potential profit margins.
