Fast food leader McDonald’s has announced that its $5 meal deal will remain available for several more weeks.
According to a memo from the chain, a majority of U.S.-based McDonald’s locations have agreed to extend the promotion beyond its initial four-week run, which began on June 25. The meal bundle will continue to be offered at about 93% of restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some opting to keep the deal available until August.
As consumers grapple with rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s bundle has proven beneficial for the company.
Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai shows that the introduction of the meal deal resulted in a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants, indicating that the promotion appeals to consumers.
This competitive pricing strategy has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own offerings. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has also entered the fray with a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, in addition to continuing its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In late May, Burger King announced its own $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would run longer than McDonald’s deal, while also planning to introduce new items within its “Fiery Menu.” Not to be left out, Wendy’s has rolled out a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
