Matthew McConaughey made an impression as a college football studio analyst during Fox’s Big Noon Saturday broadcast on September 7, 2024, while attending the game between No. 3 Texas and No. 10 Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The actor, who graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993 and is known for being a passionate Longhorn supporter, showcased his broadcast skills during halftime, where Texas was leading 24-3.

McConaughey expressed his enthusiasm for the first half, highlighting the strong performance on both offense and defense. He specifically praised Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers for his impressive stats, completing 18 of 26 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns. He also commended the team’s “smothering” defensive line play.

“That is really well done,” noted Urban Meyer, a former football coach and analyst on the show. He suggested that McConaughey has a potential future in sports broadcasting due to his insightful commentary.

McConaughey continued to analyze Ewers’ composure, handling approximately a minute of detailed analysis, prompting host Rob Stone to humorously declare, “I’ve heard enough. You’re hired.”

In a recent conversation with the Associated Press, McConaughey shared that he had been focusing on politics and self-education for the past six years, considering his instincts and suitability for future roles in that arena.
