Mbappé’s Brilliant Berna Debut: No Pressure, Just Goals!

Kylian Mbappé stated he feels “no pressure” while playing for Real Madrid after scoring two goals in a 2-0 win over Real Betis on Sunday. This marks Mbappé’s debut goals in La Liga, helping to elevate Real Madrid to second place in the standings after a challenging start to the season.

After the match, the French star expressed confidence in his ability to score, noting, “I’ve scored goals all my career, I’ll score goals for sure. The goals will come. Three games (without scoring) are a lot for me, but it’s okay, I have the confidence of my teammates.” He added, “There’s no pressure, it’s football. I have my quality. I’m here to be Kylian. I’m happy, I want to work.”

With high expectations for Madrid this season following Mbappé’s transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, the defending Spanish champions are currently four points behind rivals Barcelona. They have faced injuries to significant players like Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga, but the win against Betis marks a positive development.

Mbappé previously scored in Real Madrid’s UEFA Super Cup triumph over Atalanta but had not found the net in La Liga until Sunday. After missing a couple of chances in the first half, he finally got on the scoresheet. A brilliant backheel pass from Federico Valverde set him up for a smooth first-time finish that opened the scoring.

This was Mbappé’s first goal at the Bernabéu, and before long, he added another. Following a video assistant referee review, which confirmed Vinícius Jr. was fouled by Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva, Mbappé took the penalty shot and converted, securing the win for Madrid.

“I was looking forward to scoring in this legendary stadium, the best in the world, but the most important thing was the win,” Mbappé said after the match, following a stretch where he recorded 24 shots without scoring in La Liga.

Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti described it as a “happy day,” emphasizing that the team remains excited and motivated to improve. He noted, “We deserved to win today and we played better and with more cohesion between everyone.”

Meanwhile, Barcelona continues its perfect start to the campaign, having achieved an impressive 7-0 victory over Real Valladolid on Saturday. Raphina netted a hat-trick, while Robert Lewandowski, Jules Koundé, Dani Olmo, and Ferrán Torres also contributed to the scoreline for Hansi Flick’s team.
