Craig Burley has commented on Real Madrid’s latest performance, stating that while the team is “far from perfect,” their recent victory against Real Betis is significant.

Kylian Mbappé played a pivotal role in the match, scoring twice, including a penalty, to help Real Madrid secure a 2-0 win on Sunday. This victory marks the champions’ second triumph in LaLiga this season.

Since moving to Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in June, Mbappé initially faced a goal drought following his scoring debut in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta. With this win, Real Madrid has now accrued eight points, positioning them second in the league, four points behind Barcelona, and easing the pressure as they head into the upcoming international break.

After a disappointing draw against Las Palmas on Thursday, the team experienced a slow start at home against Betis. While they controlled the game, they struggled to generate clear goal-scoring opportunities.

The star trio of “New Galacticos” – Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, and Rodrygo – had difficulty connecting, plagued by misplaced passes. Betis, however, displayed solid defensive organization and posed a threat on the counterattack, with forward Abde Ezzalzouli missing two significant chances early in the match.

In the first half, Rodrygo held the right flank while Mbappé and Vinícius attempted to find their rhythm, highlighting the challenge of effectively integrating Mbappé into the team’s game plan. Although Mbappé missed some clear chances initially, his performance improved as the match progressed, showcasing his trademark speed and agility.

The second half saw a more dynamic Real Madrid, with Mbappé and Vinícius beginning to sync up better. Vinícius came close to scoring when he struck the post in the 50th minute. The breakthrough arrived in the 67th minute when Mbappé found the net from close range following a clever back-heel from Federico Valverde.

Mbappé sealed the victory in the 75th minute by converting a penalty awarded after Vinícius was fouled by Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva.
