Mbappé Faces Allegations: Truth or Slander?

Kylian Mbappé’s representatives have firmly denied recent allegations of rape against the France national team captain and Real Madrid forward, claiming they are “totally false” and a “slanderous rumour.” This response comes after media reports indicated that Mbappé was involved in an investigation linked to an incident at a Stockholm hotel.

Swedish prosecutors confirmed that a probe into an alleged sexual assault at a hotel in central Stockholm had been initiated, but they did not disclose the identity of any suspects. Reports from Swedish public broadcaster SVT and newspapers Expressen and Aftonbladet suggested that authorities were treating Mbappé as a suspect, citing unnamed sources.

In a statement shared with Reuters by Mbappé’s public relations firm, it was remarked, “These accusations are totally false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable.” The statement emphasized his commitment to protecting his integrity, reputation, and honor.

Mbappé’s lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, stated in an interview with TF1 that they are unaware if the complaint is specifically against him. She stressed that he is always accompanied by others and could not be exposed to any risk that could lead to reprehensible behavior. “He has done nothing wrong,” Canu-Bernard asserted, noting that Mbappé would be willing to cooperate with authorities if there were a direct investigation aimed at him.

Mbappé, who recently missed matches against Israel and Belgium due to a muscle injury, took to social media to dismiss the rumors, labeling them as “Fake News!!!!”

Reports indicate that Mbappé was in Stockholm on a private visit with friends last week. He and his group departed Sweden on Friday, and an allegation was reportedly filed with police by an unidentified victim the following day.

The Swedish Prosecution Authority confirmed that a criminal report was submitted but did not provide details regarding the victim or the specific circumstances of the alleged incident.

According to sources cited by SVT and Expressen, the level of suspicion against Mbappé is considered “reasonable,” which is the lower threshold in the Swedish legal system, as opposed to “probable suspicion,” which is usually necessary for custody remand.

As of now, Mbappé has resumed training with his Real Madrid teammates, but the club has not yet commented on whether they were informed of the ongoing investigation.
