Mayweather and Gotti III: A Rivalry Concluded in the Ring

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and John Gotti III faced off in a rematch that effectively settled their unexpected rivalry. Unlike their intense initial matchup last year, this exhibition did not feature excessive banter or altercations.

On Saturday night at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, broadcast live on DAZN, Mayweather showcased his boxing prowess over eight two-minute rounds, delivering a stellar performance. The 47-year-old boxing icon controlled the ring, skillfully utilizing his jab, executing combinations, targeting the body, and dodging Gotti III’s attempts, all while maintaining a lighthearted demeanor.

“I want to thank Gotti for being a man of his word,” Mayweather expressed during the broadcast. The two fighters embraced post-match, indicating any previous animosity had been resolved. Gotti III acknowledged Mayweather’s skill, saying, “He still got it.”

Mayweather’s talent shone through as he maintained a high level of performance during the 16-minute exhibition, demonstrating that he remains a top-tier boxer.

A minor controversy arose in the second round when the referee paused the fight to caution Mayweather against hitting behind the head. The exchange led to the referee being replaced after Mayweather urged him to “move!” Once the fight resumed, Mayweather continued to dominate, effectively using his jab to penetrate Gotti III’s defenses.

Gotti III struggled to adapt to Mayweather’s sophisticated boxing style, a challenge many have faced given Mayweather’s undefeated record of 50-0.

Post-fight, Mayweather appeared to dismiss the prospect of an exhibition against fellow boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez, instead lauding Chavez for his contributions to the sport.

This event wrapped up the Mayweather vs. Gotti III rematch card, showcasing the skills of both fighters.
