“Mayor of Kingstown” is set to return to Pittsburgh for its fifth and final season, as announced by Paramount+ on Monday. The critically acclaimed drama, which features Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner and Emmy winner Edie Falco, focuses on the McLusky family in the fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan, where they navigate the complex and often dark dynamics of the local prison system.

The show’s fourth season concluded on December 28, achieving a remarkable 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers witnessed protagonist Mike McLusky, portrayed by Renner, grappling with a violent gang war and a new warden, skillfully played by Falco.

Paramount+ describes “Mayor of Kingstown” as a series that confronts pressing issues such as systemic racism, corruption, and inequality, while chronicling the McLusky family’s efforts to instill order and justice in a troubled town.

Although specific details regarding the plot of the fifth season and its release date remain undisclosed, the Pittsburgh Film Office has confirmed that production will soon resume in the region. Previous seasons have significantly benefited the local economy, with the fourth season alone generating over $95 million for the area. The film office expressed optimism, stating, “Season 5 is expected to continue local economic prosperity!”

The series has utilized various western Pennsylvania locations for filming, including Millvale and McKeesport, alongside notable sites like the 16th Street Bridge and the Western Penitentiary. As production approaches, the Pittsburgh Film Office is likely to issue a call for extras, providing an opportunity for locals to participate in this highly anticipated finale.

The continuation of “Mayor of Kingstown” not only promises to provide closure for its fans but also reinforces the lasting economic impact of the film industry in Pittsburgh.
