Maya Hawke recently appeared on Amy Poehler’s podcast, Good Hang, where she shared some amusing insights about her experiences working with director Quentin Tarantino on the film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. In the episode aired on November 4, Poehler inquired whether Hawke received any advice from her mother, actress Uma Thurman, who is known for her collaborations with Tarantino on films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

Hawke reminisced about her mother’s playful piece of advice, which was simply, “Keep your shoes on,” alluding to Tarantino’s well-documented interest in bare feet. This light-hearted exchange with Poehler sparked laughter, with Poehler affirming that it was sound advice for anyone working with the filmmaker.

Tarantino’s films, including Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, have become notorious for featuring the bare feet of various actresses, leading to jokes about his penchant for such shots. Notably, during the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards, actor Brad Pitt humorously thanked Tarantino for his work, which included separating women from their shoes more than the TSA.

Hawke also reflected on her fond childhood memories spent on set with her parents, Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. She described those moments as a safe haven where she felt free to explore, indulge her sweet tooth at the Craft Services table, and watch stunt rehearsals. “It felt like Disneyland,” she remarked, explaining how those experiences ultimately fueled her passion for acting.

In addition to her conversation with Poehler, Hawke discussed her role in the upcoming animated sequel, Inside Out 2, where she voices the character Anxiety. She expressed satisfaction in portraying a role that resonates with children, stating it has helped many feel more understood about their emotions.

Looking ahead, Hawke has a busy slate, with upcoming projects including Wishful Thinking, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and the much-anticipated final season of Stranger Things, which is set to premiere on Netflix on November 26. This bright future in her career showcases Hawke’s growth as an actress, and her experiences thus far certainly suggest a promising trajectory in the industry.
