Wrexham midfielder Matty James expressed his deep connection to Leicester City ahead of their Championship clash on Tuesday, while also emphasizing his commitment to securing a win against his former team. James, who recently extended his contract with Wrexham until the summer of 2027, spent nearly a decade at Leicester, making 117 appearances and was part of the squad that famously won the Premier League in 2016, even though he missed that season due to injury.

“It’s a club that I hold close to my heart,” James remarked, reflecting on the warm reception he received during a previous away game against Leicester. Despite his fondness for the Foxes, he is focused on leading Wrexham to victory. “But certainly for us, we’re looking to try and get those three points on the night,” he stated.

Both teams head into the match looking to recover from recent defeats; Wrexham suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Norwich City, while Leicester faced a setback against league leaders Coventry City. With Leicester having been relegated from the Premier League last season, they have struggled both on the pitch and with financial issues off the field. As it stands, Leicester sits 13th in the Championship table, three points behind 10th placed Wrexham and six points away from the playoff positions.

James noted that while Leicester may have experienced inconsistent results, he respects their potential to turn things around. “I think they’ll probably be expecting more from themselves,” he added, acknowledging the challenges the club is facing. However, he is determined to keep his focus on Wrexham’s preparation for the game.

“Our aim is to put on a great performance and get those three points,” he said, underscoring the importance of the upcoming match. With the Championship fixtures coming thick and fast, James sees the home game as a prime opportunity for Wrexham to make a statement.
